Uncle Sam. When you see this boy and hear his name, you can’t help but chuckle with how well it suits him. Uncle Sam is a young 1ish year old 90lb American Bulldog mastiff mix. His presence leaves a lasting impression on all those that he meets. How can you forget a boy with the cranium and heart each the size of a watermelon. We don’t think Uncle Sam has the capacity to be anything other than a happy go lucky boy. When you see him run, it looks something like a hippo galloping. Again, you can’t help but chuckle. His impressive jowls force an overwhelming need to kiss his face. You don’t know why; but, you cannot help it. His soulful eyes just beckon you to play with him. Uncle Sam knows how to be mellow and laid back, especially in new situations. Once he warms up to you, the inner goof ball comes out. He loves car rides and tug of war. When playing, he remains gentle and allows you to handle him and the toy. Also, he is playful with other dogs. Due to his size, and how unaware he is of his greatness, Uncle Sam would likely be best with medium to larger size dogs. He is good with small dogs, but, again, he does not see the size difference. After meeting one cat, we feel he could live with one if slow introductions are utilized. He was inquisitive about a vet’s office cat he met and respectful of his space. Uncle Sam has been extraordinarily accepting and loving of all humans he’s met. This boy would do really well in any home looking for a big boy to love. Did we mention that his cranium is literally the size of a watermelon? It’s just impressive. Poor Uncle Sam led an unknown life prior to becoming a TPR dog. The South Jamaica police department found him tied up outside of their precinct. Discarded like rotten trash. Never again will Uncle Sam have to endure the bitter sting of abandonment and neglect.
